The Minister of Health, Abdulla Ameen has revealed that the rate of Covid-19 spread has dropped from 3.8% to 1.4%.
Joining the press briefing at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) on Wednesday night, the minister noted that the government’s decision to ease the lockdown imposed across the Greater Malé Region comes following the progress in the authorities’ efforts to curb the spread of the global pandemic.
As such, Ameen stated that the number of direct contacts of Covid-19 patients had significantly reduced along with the spread of the virus, following the several initiatives taken to spread awareness among the public.
Minister Ameen noted that the spread of the infection has dropped to 1.4% from 3.8%, with the direct contacts dropping from 33 to six.
Highlighting that the progress has been significant, Ameen stated that flu symptoms are also less in comparison to the beginning and that the samples collected through flu clinics are turning out negative, mostly.
In addition, Dr. Ali Latheef also noted that the rate of confirmed cases is decreasing and that authorities have made several preparations when beginning the ease plan.
As such, the doctor noted that the capacity to treat patients should additional cases arise, has also been increased.
As the government tirelessly works to increase the country’s Covid-19 testing capacity, it is notable that several hospitals are also extending support and cooperation in the efforts.
