The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has predicted heavy rain showers across northern and central atolls until 10pm, Wednesday.

The department publicized its weather forecast for the period between 10am to 10pm on Wednesday, predicting scattered rain showers and a few thunderstorms to prevail over the country.

MET predicted squally rain shower in the north and central atolls.

Further, MET revealed that surface winds will vary between west to north westerly at 13 – 23 miles per hour and winds may increase 45 – 55 miles per hour, during showers.

While swell wave surges are expected during high tide times over some regions, the department has predicted seas to be moderate becoming rough during showers.

The public has been urged to practice caution due to the strong monsoon activities the country has been experiencing for the past few days.

Maldives issued the first ever orange alert across some regions due to adverse weather conditions, on Friday and some regions, especially in the southernmost Addu atoll has been suffering from severe damage caused by flooding due to rain showers.

Authorities have been active in relief efforts since.
