MET urges caution against squally weather over central, southern atolls

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has urged caution against squally weather conditions across some parts of the Maldives.

MET predicts scattered rain showers and a few thunderstorms over central and southern atolls from 10am to 10pm on Tuesday.

Further, isolated thunder showers are also expected in the north.

The department revealed that seas will be moderate becoming rough during showers throughout the country and urged seafarers to practice caution as swell wave surges are expected during high tides, in some regions.

Predicting strong winds, MET revealed that winds will be from west to northwesterly at 13 – 23 miles per hour and gust between 45 – 55 miles per hour during showers throughout the country.

Since the southwest monsoon began, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has been urging the public to be cautious of the weather as well, at a time the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) is also sweeping steadily across the entire nation. HPA has also urged caution against dengue and influenza.
