The Covid-19 treatment hospital being developed in southernmost Addu City is to be completed next week.

The city’s mayor, Abdulla Sodhiq, at a press conference on Friday said that work on the hospital will be completed by May 20.

The Covid-19 treatment facility is being developed at the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital (HRH), some reconstruction and electric work are being conducted there prior to use.

Noting that these works have finished, the mayor said that they are currently working to bring the required resources.

National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) had on April 20 announced that work to develop a Covid-19 treatment facility in Addu was being conducted.

The hospital will have 23 ICU beds and 22 isolation beds.

While there have been concern over the lack of testing facilities in Addu, an emergency motion was submitted to parliament over the matter.

Mayor Sodhiq also said that they are working said that the government is working to make testing available in the city.

Addu City is yet to confirm a Covid-19 case. However, there was a scare last week, after a patient transferred from Addu Equatorial Hospital tested positive for the virus. He has since been confirmed negative following two additional tests.
