Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has appointed a female officer as the Commander at a quarantine facility established in the Maldives, for the first time in the history of the country.

MNDF stated that MNDF officer, Captain Hana Mohamed has been appointed to the post as MNDF Commander at the quarantine facility in Fushifaru Maldives.

The authority added that this is the first time in the Maldives’ history that a female officer has been assigned to the post.

The appointment has been made as part of the authority’s efforts to ensure gender equality in providing their services.

A number of quarantine and isolation facilities have been established by the government of Maldives across the scatter of islands since the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Maldives in March.

These facilities are managed by MNDF officers who are led by commanders stationed in these facilities.

MNDF plays a vital role in ensuring operations at these facilities are effectively carried out and a number of officers have even tested positive for the infection while in line of duty.
