A 24-year-old man has been arrested during a drug operation in Mahibadhoo island of Alif Dhaal atoll.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the operation was conducted as part of the authority’s efforts to curb drug trafficking and smuggling in the Maldives and was carried out jointly by the officers stationed in the island as well as the Police Intelligence Unit, after a tip-off that the suspect was involved in a drug trafficking network.

The 24-year-old Maldivian man was arrested under a court order from his residence, on May 12.

Officers confiscated 36 pieces of cellophane upon searching the man’s residence.

Mahibadhoo police station has since launched further investigations into the case.
