Maldives Police Service (MPS) has begun investigating a case of theft where an individual clad in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) robbed from a house.

A video circulating on social media shows a man covered head-to-toe in PPE, which is being used by frontline workers in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic in Maldives, leaving a house. The post reads that the man had entered the house claiming to disinfect it and he is seen carrying a spray bottle in hand.

At a time the case of an individual misusing gear used in Covid-19 response efforts has stirred public concern, police revealed that an individual had broken into a house in Mahchangoalhi-ward of capital Malé City on Friday. The robber had stolen a mobile phone.

No arrests have been made in connection to the case thus far.

However, police have launched further investigations into the case.
