Expat housing facilities in Hulhumalé to be completed by May 18

These housing facilities are being constructed in Phase II of Hulhumalé
The Housing Development Coporation (HDC) has revealed that the labor quarters being constructed for 2,684 migrant workers in Hulhumalé will be completed by May 18.
The government began work to transfer migrant workers forced to reside in congested and confined living spaces to better facilities after a number of migrant workers living in such conditions began testing positive for the fast-spreading Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19). As such, the government has been constructing temporary housing facilities in Phase II to Hulhumalé to shelter these migrant workers living in vulnerable homes.
These facilities are being constructed by government companies and there are currently three companies that have undertaken projects, divided among the three.
As such, China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (CSCEC) is assisting in the construction of for prefabricated steel structures, a kitchen block and a 84-toilet block in Phase II of Hulhumalé, said HDC. The project is expected to be completed by May 18 and has the capacity to accommodate 800 individuals.
Two building blocks with a 1,292 person-capacity is being constructed under the State Trading Organization (STO) Hiya temporary quarter, which is also expected to conclude by May 18. BUCG and JAUSA Traders are assisting in the construction of this quarter. HDC has expressed gratitude for these companies for their services and support to safeguard the well-being of the community.
In addition, the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) is also prefabricating a labor quarter which has the capacity to house 592 individuals and is also expected to be completed by May 18.
Local constructor SJ Construction and Fedo Private Limited are assisting in the construction of this quarter.
