Three individuals native to Thakandhoo island in Haa Alif atoll have tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Included among the three are a child and two women.

The island council’s president, Ahmed Niyaz has confirmed the matter to RaajjeMV, adding that they had travelled via “Kaaviya” boat.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) informed the council of the test results coming back positive, on Friday morning.

“Kaaviya” boat was among the boats that were quarantined after travelling to Maldives capital, Malé City and are linked to a Covid-19 cluster. As such, passengers on said boats tested positive for the virus after having visited the capital. Among the patients is the captain of “Amaaz” boat who carried 98 individuals to 13 islands in the north.

Since then, a number of cases have emerged from islands in the north, and authorities have identified it as a community transmission.
