This was revealed by the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Zhang Lizhong via Twitter on Monday morning.

While he first stated that they were assisting in the work at two quarantine facilities, the ambassador tweeted a correction saying that these are facilities for “foreign workers in need”.

China State Construction and Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) are assisting in the work, following a request by Maldivian authorities,

This facility will have a maximum capacity of 800 individuals, said Lizhong.

In a separate Tweet, the ambassador noted that BUCG has also decided to arrange a task force of 40 workers to help renovate a two-story building in Hulhumalé. The workers will construct the building into a quarantine facility with the capacity of 327 beds.
