There have been delays is taking samples of possible Covid-19 patients, says Covid-19 taskforce’s spokesperson, adding that they will work to solve this issue.

Mohamed Mabrook Aziz said this during Sunday night’s press conference, in response to question by a reporter.

Noting that there have been delays in taking samples of possible patients, Mabrook admitted that “there are some operational issues”.

He said that there is a backlog of cases, and further acknowledged that they have yet to attend to some individuals that reported to them after exhibiting Covid-19 like symptoms.

“There have been delays at time. Long delays. We do accept this, that this is something we need improve on. We are working on this, including to further strengthen our Rapid Response Teams”

Further noting that their main focus right now is to take samples of direct contacts of confirmed patients, Mabrook said that all direct contacts are being tested as per current procedures. He added that priority is given to those that have shown symptoms.

While there have been numerous complaints over delays in attending to individuals with Covid-19 like symptoms, Health Minister Abdulla Ameen had previously said that this issue has been solved.
