Covid-19 community transmission
Maldivian tests positive for Covid-19 from Sh. Narudhoo
This is the second outlying island from which a positive case has surfaced
The individual is to have tested positive after travelling to the island from the capital city
The capital region is under lockdown

A Maldivian has tested positive for Covid-19 in Narudhoo island of Shaviyani atoll.

A reliable source who wished to remain anonymous told RaajjeMV that the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has informed this to the island officials. However, authorities are yet to confirm this.

An individual who is to have travelled to the island from the locked down capital city of the Maldives, Malé, had tested positive to the disease.

With this discovery, the island has become the second outlying island from which a positive case has surfaced, the first one being Uligan island in Haa Alif atoll.

The first case of a community transmission was observed in the country, on 15 April.

Authorities have been working tirelessly to step up their efforts in sample collecting and testing for the disease, since cases have begun spiking.
