The experiences and challenges being experienced by the Maldives in its response efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic have been shared with SAARC member nations.
A video conference was organized by SAARC in which health professionals from members states joined to discuss their response efforts against the pandemic.
The initiative by Pakistan was also joined by Maldives Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru.
Discussions revolved around the current situation of the response in respective member countries, which shared the challenges being faced in controlling and containing the spread of the disease.
Extensive discussions were also held on assistance and strengthening of measures that are currently being put in place.
Reiterating that the Maldives’ bilateral partners including member states of SAARC have been providing “very good support” for the country’s response efforts, the Director General of Public health conveyed sincere gratitude for the cooperation extended, from the people and government of the island nation.
She further stressed on the hindrances the country is facing as a country that depends on import goods, specially medical supplies and equipment needed by the health sector.
Maimoona highlighted that these issues will be eased with cooperation from SAARC member states.
All member states of the organization had agreed upon holding an additional video conference session for further discussions regarding the aid being extended from one member nation to the other in their Covid-19 response efforts.
