The condition of the 80-year-old Covid-19 patient is no longer deteriorating, however, doctors fear the patient’s condition may worsen abruptly.

Speaking to RaajjeMV to Wednesday, Dr. Moosa Hussain, one of the doctors working on the frontlines of the battle against the pandemic, revealed that the patient’s condition has not deteriorated since being admitted on Tuesday.

However, since the patient suffers from various other conditions, doctors fear that the patient’s condition may worsen “at any time”.

Patient 81, who tested positive for Covid-19 from the capital earlier on Tuesday is currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dharumavantha Hospital.

The man had been bedridden for two years following a stroke and Dr. Moosa earlier revealed that the patient has several comorbidities including diabetics, high blood pressure and cholesterol and was frequently admitted for treatment of recurrent respiratory pneumonia.

Stressing that the patient suffered from other conditions, the doctor revealed that patient 81’s oxygen level was at 94 percent when brought in, whereas a healthy individual has a 98 percent oxygen level. This is a warning signal, said the doctor, adding that those immune-comprised are more prone to such diseases.

A team of doctors has now begun treatment for the patient with some of the research medicines and they will the closely monitoring whether the patient requires more additional medicines.
