Maldives has condemned the shooting rampage in Canada’s Nova Scotia province.
In a message to his Canadian counterpart, François-Philippe Champagne, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid said that he was “deeply shocked and devastated” to learn of the mass shootings in Canada.
At least 18 people across Nova Scotia were killed by a gunman dressed as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer. The 51-year-old gunman is to have evaded the police for 12 hours, before being shot dead by the police.
While the gunman, identified as Gabriel Wortman had “left a trail of 16 crime scenes”, authorities are working to process these areas. Canadian officials said that the death toll may rise.
Those killed in the shooting include a police constable, a corrections officer, a nurse and a teacher, and a virtual vigil is to be held for the victims due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The motive behind the shooting, which has been described as one of Canada's deadliest, is under investigation.
