Police have issued 39 fines to people who breached the lockdown imposed in the capital.

While it was earlier revealed that 92 people were taken into custody for violating the lockdown order imposed in capital Malé City, Assistant Police Commissioner Abdulla Fairoosh said that 39 people have been fined.

Furthermore, at a press conference held on Saturday night, Fairoosh said that not all were taken into custody with the intent of an arrest and stressed that some of them are “homeless”.

Noting that some of the people still seen on the streets despite the lockdown are there because they do not have a place to go, Fairoosh said that there are some individuals that have been sleeping on cardboards at odd places in the city.

He stated that they have been assisting such persons, together with other relevant institutions.
