Male City has been placed under lockdown for 24 hours following a Maldivian national testing positive for COVID-19 in the country's congested capital.
According to the announcement by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Wednesday, the lockdown was declared after a Maldivian national tested positive for COVID-19 in Male' City earlier in the day and is effective from 3:30pm.
Going out or driving in public is banned under the lockdown, reads the statement. Public transport services have also been suspended and no one is allowed to leave or enter any of the islands in the region (Male', Hulhumale', Villimale, Gulhifalhu, Thilafushi).
The 24-hour lockdown is effective from 3:30 pm on Wednesday.
Exceptions to the lockdown include;
- Police and MNDF officers
- Healthcare workers and their vehicles
- Ambulances
- Permit holders from the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC)
- Media professionals with permits from the NEOC
