The fire that ravaged seven vessels docked outside Mahibadhoo island has been extinguished, says Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).

MNDF states that the incident was reported around 05:45 am on Wednesday morning. Five launches and two dinghies docked outside Mahibadhoo island were burnt in the incident, including one police launch, one atoll council launch, one sea ambulance and two launches named HMHI travels.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Mahibadhoo island council president Ahmed Khaleel stated that the fire was discovered at around 5:30 am and that the island's residents had attempted to control the fire. By the time MNDF had arrived, Mahibadhoo residents had successfully extinguished the fire on all but one launch, said Khaleel.

He added that all seven vessels had burnt to a crisp, however, no one was hurt.

Work is underway to relocate the vessels elsewhere. The origin or cause of the fire is unknown.

The fire that began at dawn was successfully extinguished by 08:05 am.
