Maldives is set to represent South Asia on the United Nation’s World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) Global Tourism Crisis Committee.
Minister of Tourism, Ali Waheed was appointed to the crisis committee during "The Global Tourism Coordination Virtual Meeting" held by the tourism agency on March 19th.
During the meeting, members agreed to establish a Global Tourism Crisis Committee so as to address the impacts on work tourism caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Further, discussions during the meeting focused on compiling a recovery plan report detailing recommendations for governments and relevant authorities to reduce and repair the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on tourism sectors.
Minister Waheed currently chairs the UNWTO’s South Asia Regional Commission.
