Police investigating case of gang violence

Police received the report a little past 11am on Tuesday

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has begun investigating a case of gang violence in the capital city, Malé.

Police revealed that they received reports of the gang violence, which reportedly occurred a little past 11am on Tuesday when a group of four of motorcycles targeted another individual on a motorcycle, near Heenaamaage Parking Zone in Majeedhee Magu.

The groups of four, along with the victim, had left the region by the time officers arrived at the scene.

Police further revealed that the case is under further investigations.

This comes at a time there has been a noticeable decrease in cases of open gang violence on the roads of the capital.

Police statistics reveal that assault cases in the country dropped by a small margin in March compared to January. As such, assault cases were recorded at 59 during January and thus far, 34 cases of assault have been reported during the ongoing month.
