The government of Maldives has been strengthening precautionary measures being implemented in the fight against the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

This was revealed at a press conference on Tuesday night by government spokesperson for all things Covid-19, Mabrook Aziz, who revealed that the government is “geared up” in the face of the pandemic.

As such, authorities have begun boosting work being done, including surveillance sampling. As such, samples will be taken from anyone who develops symptoms even the “slightest bit”.

The government has reached further decisions regarding its fight against the fatal infection, which emerged in the country a little less than a fortnight ago.

Under these measures, samples were taken from eight more Maldivians who turned symptomatic to the disease after returning from neighboring Sri Lanka and India recently.

Mabrook went on to reveal that samples are being taken “continuously” from outlying atolls as well as the Greater Malé Region and the procedure is continuous. However, all details are not shared with the public as no new cases have risen.

Mabrook added that these samples are taken several times round, to ensure precise results.

Dr. Nazla Rafeeq, who joined the press conference to share the latest information regarding the pandemic to with the people, urged the people, especially social media users to refrain from spreading information that may create unnecessary apprehension and fear among the people.

As such, stressing that some social media posts are leading the people to believe that the situation is out of control, Dr. Nazla shed light on the importance of maintaining composure among the people as it creates a fearsome environment.

Sample-taking is not something that should bring fear to the people’s hearts, said the doctor, who added that the people will be enlightened, if there is anything to worry about.
