Covid-19: Maldivian, direct contact of a positive patient, being tested after symptoms

A Maldivian in capital city suburban district, Hulhumalé, has been taken into isolation at Farukolhufushi, for monitoring and testing.

The Maldivian is to have been identified as a direct contact of one of the two positive patients from Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort and is to have developed Covid-19-like symptoms within the past two days.

Speaking to press on Sunday, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz, spokesperson for government's Covid-19 taskforce revealed that the individual was in Hulhumalé and it is yet unclear on the number of days the Maldivian has been in suburbs since returning from the resort. The individual is likely to have travelled to the congested Malé as well.

Contract tracing is currently undergoing, said Mabrook.

In addition, Mabrook revealed that Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa is no longer under monitoring as the samples taken tested negative both times.

Furthermore, two expatriates from Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru have been taken into isolation following symptoms, samples have been taken and the island is currently under monitoring.

One expatriate from aaaVeee Nature’s Paradise is also being tested following symptoms, said Mabrook, who added that the island has been placed under monitoring as well.

Also at the press, Mabrook revealed that the government is yet to reach a decision on disclosing the nationalities of the positive patients, amid concerns from the public.
