Authorities have revealed that a MVR 212 million contingency budget has been allocated for the efforts against Covid-19, under the Public Health Act.
The announcement was made by Mohamed Mabrook Aziz, spokesperson for all thing Covid-19 during a press conference at the National Emergency Operations Center on Sunday night.
As such, Mabrook revealed that the Ministry of Finance allocated a MVR 212 million contingency budget under the state budget, for such situations.
The spokesperson added that this amount does not include any funds extended as aid by foreign countries.
This comes days after the declaration of state of public health emergency, and hours after the country confirmed three new coronavirus cases on Sunday; five since Friday.
Under the Public Health Act, the People’s Majlis is required to pass a budget for the consecutive year which will cater to several initiatives for the protection of public health.
The state of public health emergency is to last for a period of 30 days, from March 12.
