President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged senior officials of Maldives Media Council (MMC) to share accurate and verified information to the public.
This was done during a ceremony to present the Diamond Pen for Journalism to Abbas Ibrahim who achieved the rank of the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddeen.
Pushing the management to work “hard” on achieving this goal, Solih stressed the importance of checking validity of news before sharing it with the public.
Further, he urged media workers to “take full responsibility” for their publications and practice the act of honesty to fulfill their journalistic duties.
Touching on the importance of passing fact-based information especially in the critical situation the country has been enveloped in.
The president praised the council for their hard work in ensuring factual information is shared with the public.
Initially, Abbas won the Diamond Pen for Journalism during December 2018, however, he was unable to receive the prize as he was not residing in the Maldives. Solih highlighted the Diamond Pen recipient’s services extended in the field of journalism, in which he served over 50 years.
