Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has revealed that three officers injured have been injured during an incident at Asseyri Prison.
MCS stated via Twitter that the disturbance occurred on Thursday night. The incident took place after officers attempted to remove a prohibited item in an inmate's possession, resulting in other inmates creating a disturbance in retaliation.
While three officers sustained injuries of varying degrees, MCS stated that the situation was promptly brought under control.
Moreover, no inmates were injured during the disturbance, said MCS, adding that the necessary disciplinary measures are being undertaken.
MCS is responsible for the oversight of all prisons in the Maldives. There are a total of four prisons in the country; Maafushi Prison, Himmafushi Asseyri Prison, Male’ Prison and Hulhumale' prisons.
