Speaker of Parliament and leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the former Minister of Housing Dr Mohamed Muizzu is responsible for ruining Male' City.
Speaking at MDP's campaign launch for the upcoming local council elections held on Friday, Nasheed highlighted that the previous regime amended decentralisation laws a total of five times and stripped local council's of their authority.
Nasheed went onto heavily criticise the Former Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Mohamed Muizzu and questioned whether the public can ever forget the former minister's transgressions during his tenure. Nasheed further stated that Muizzu should be ashamed to contest the local council elections after robbing the councils of their power during the past five years.
No resident of Male' City would vote for Muizzu, said Nasheed, adding that the former minister is responsible for "ruining" the capital city.
Referring to allegations against Muizzu- specifically accusations regarding the housing scheme and the 700 housing units awarded to the former minister's "henchmen" - Nasheed stated that these issues are not "okay".
