President of opposition People’s National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has implied that the opposition will take back power from the incumbent government.

Speaking at an event calling for the release of the opposition's jailed leader, former President Abdulla Yameen, that was held on Wednesday, Abdul Raheem stated that the lack of the former president's presence can be heavily felt across the country and that the nation is crying for the return of the former president at any cost.

Abdul Raheem went onto highlight the opposition's campaign pledges during the presidential election, reiterating that the country's economy will suffer without former President Yameen and stated that the country has now begun facing the economic consequences.

The former MP for Fonadhoo constituency also stated that the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had no economic policy or agenda when the administration took office. Hence, succeeding the local council elections is the only way to prevent the country from falling to an impending crisis, said Abdul Raheem, adding that the nation is currently compelled to end Yameen's incarceration.

In regard to the upcoming local council elections slated for April 4th, Abdul Raheem stated that the upcoming elections will be a dangerous and terrifying election. Elaborating on the comment, he explained that the election will determine if the country will maintain or lose it's sovereignty.

Further criticising the government, Abdul Raheem stated that the country's leaders are traitors and added that PPM will definitely succeed the upcoming local council elections.
