Three men have been arrested and remanded during a drug operation conducted in Lhaimagu island of Shaviyani atoll by officers stationed at Funadhoo island in the same atoll, in cooperation with the police intelligence unit.
Police revealed that the operation was carried out as part of the authorities’ efforts to curb drug trafficking and smuggling in the country, following a tip-off to police intel.
Arrested were a 19-year-old, 23-year-old and a 33-year-old; all Maldivian men.
During the operation conducted on Saturday, the men were arrested under a court order and officers conducted a search at their residence upon which 36 rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics were confiscated.
The three men have since been remanded by 15 days by the Feydhoo Magistrate Court.
They are to be kept at a remand facility decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The case is under further investigations by Funadhoo Police Station.
