Maldivians eligible for Commonwealth scholarships once again

Maldives delegation meeting with Commonwealth SG Patricia Scotland
Maldivian citizens are once again eligible for Commonwealth scholarships following the country's return to the organisation.
The arrangements were made on the request of Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid during a meeting with Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, revealed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Scotland approved the request and declared Maldivians eligible for Commonwealth scholarships from January 7th onwards, adding that details of the scholarships will be published shortly.
In addition to the scholarships, discussions during the meeting touched on further areas of co-operation between the Maldives and the Commonwealth.
The meeting was also attended by People’s Majlis’ majority leader, Central-Henveiru constituency MP Ali Azim, who is accompanying the foreign minister on the trip, High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to the United Kingdom, Dr Farahanaz Faizal, Secretary, Foreign Relations at The President’s Office, Sabra Ibrahim Noordeen and staff of the High Commission of the Maldives in the United Kingdom.
While Maldives’ readmittance into the Commonwealth was officially confirmed on February 1st, flag hoisting ceremony to commemorate Maldives’ readmission as the 54th member state was held on Thursday.
