A Spanish man has died while on holiday in the Maldives.

Police said that the 71-year-old, who was holidaying in Kuramathi Island Resort in North Ari atoll, died while out snorkeling.

They did not release any further details, other than that the incident was reported at around 5pm on Saturday.

Police continue to investigate the matter.
