President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Ahmed Athif as the new Deputy Minister of Tourism.

Athif, native to Kulhudhuffushi City in Haa Dhaal atoll, filled several posts in Haa Dhaal atoll council prior to his appointment. As such, he earlier served as President and Vice President of the Haa Dhaal atoll council.

He also served as a councilor of the atoll.

Athif holds a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Avid College and is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at the British School of Commerce.

This comes at a time the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Tourism had expressed interest in running for Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City, in the upcoming Local Council Elections, slated for April 2020.
