Jazeera championship is set to begin on January 25th.

General Secretary of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), Hussain Jawaz, better known as Jawa, has denied rumours claiming that the first round of the Jazeera championship has been cancelled.

Jazeera championship was previously known as "Minivan championship" before Minister of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof and President of FAM, Bassam Jaleel announced the change during September last year.

Jawa revealed that an island-level round of the competition in collaboration with island councils was arranged to be held at Minister Mahloof's request, however, only eight out of 87 teams participating in the competition submitted applications at the island level.

Nothing that the aforementioned amount of teams is not enough to hold a round of the competition, Jawa disclosed that the regulations of the competition have since been reverted back to that of "Minivan championship".

According to FAM, the Jazeera championship is set to begin on January 25th.
