Solih's first visit was to Vaikaradhoo, Haa Dhaal atoll

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has joined main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s ongoing Thiladhunmathi atoll tour on Tuesday.

The president joined the delegation on its way to Vaikaradhoo island, Haa Dhaal atoll on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to RaajjeMV regarding the trip, the president stated that he aims to garner a big majority for the party in the upcoming Local Council Elections 2020.

He added that the party’s policies and pledges will only be implemented with the election of councilors who support and root for the pledges.

The delegation of 300 party members, parliamentarians representing the constituencies and the MDP leadership is led by Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed and the tour began from Ihavandhoo island in Haa Alif atoll on Sunday.

On Tuesday, the delegation visited Hanimaadhoo, Neykurendhoo and Kumundhoo in Haa Dhaal atoll and its last stop of the day is Kulhudhuffushi island.

Both President Solih and Speaker Nasheed are set to participate in the Northern Conference in Kulhudhuffushi.

While the delegation is set to visit all islands in the biggest administrative area of Maldives consisting of Haa Dhaal and Haa Alif atolls, door-to-door campaigns for the upcoming Local Council Elections 2020 commenced throughout the trip.

During some of the campaigns in the respective islands, members inquired about the concerns and issues facing the island communities. Speaker Nasheed had urged the people to cast their ballots for MDP candidates in the council elections, in order to ease their hardships, resolve issues and ensure the pledges included in the party’s Agenda 19 campaign are fulfilled.

The trip will conclude on Thursday, revealed MDP.
