Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) covered five islands on Monday as part of their Thiladhunmathi atoll tour which began on Sunday.

After a 10-hour journey, the 300-member delegation’s first stop was at Ihavandhoo island in Haa Alif atoll.

Afterwards, the delegation travelled to Hoarafushi, Kelaa and Baarah, followed by Dhidhdhoo.

The delegation, led by Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed, took part in a gathering held in Dhidhdhoo, which started at 9pm.

While the delegation is set to visit all islands in the biggest administrative area of Maldives consisting of Haa Dhaal and Haa Alif atolls, door-to-door campaigns for the upcoming Local Council Elections 2020 are also set to commence throughout the trip.

During some of the campaigns in the respective islands, members inquired about the concerns and issues facing the island communities. Speaker Nasheed had urged the people to cast their ballots for MDP candidates in the council elections, in order to ease their hardships, resolve issues and ensure the pledges included in the party’s Agenda 19 campaign are fulfilled.

The delegation, including parliamentarians representing the constituencies, will be heading to some islands of Haa Dhaal atoll on Tuesday.

Nasheed will be inaugurating the Northern Conference in Kulhudhuffushi City on Tuesday as well.

The trip will conclude on Thursday, revealed the party.
