Hearing in couple charged over deliberate murder of newborn's case set for Sunday

A hearing in the case implicating two individuals accused of burying their newborn child has been scheduled at the Criminal Court.

The hearing is set to take place on Sunday.

While the case surfaced in Addu City’s Maradhoo-Feydhoo district during 2012, Aminath Shaahee Aalam and Ibrahim Wisam are charged of deliberate murder of a newborn after labor.

The hearing is set to commence at 2pm on Sunday and will revolve around debates regarding evidence.

The last hearing in the case was held on 31 December, during which statements were taken from two state witnesses.

The two witnesses who testified against the couple from Addu City are employee at Hithadhoo Regional Hospital Rizha Razeen and the officer who compiled a DNA report in the case. Rizha was employed at the hospital at the time the incident took place.

The officer is to have testified that the DNA sample of the newborn matches with the two individuals charged over its murder.
