President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that the report compiled on minimum wage will be presented to the cabinet of ministers, next week.
The president took to Twitter on Tuesday, writing that he has received the report on minimum wage compiled by the “Salary and Wages Advisory Board” and that the report will be shared with his cabinet ministers within the following week.
The advisory board was established by President Solih in commemoration of the International Workers' Day, to advise him after carrying out broad consultations and research.
Establishing a minimum wage is included in the government’s pledges. Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) drafted the bill with a minimum wage of MVR 200 per day during a workshop in January.
The minimum wage bill was the only bill remaining when the second term of the 19th Parliament went into recess.
Further, Minister of Economic Development, Fayyaz Ismail earlier predicted that a minimum wage will be decided by early 2020.
