Hondaafushi resort has denied allegations of unfair dismissal of a resort worker in their employment.

According to a press statement released by the resort, service charge is calculated according to the number of days the worker has been employed, and the service charge of the previous month is issued on the next month.

Further, the resort denies the allegations made by an ex-employee claiming that he was unfairly dismissed for disclosing the amount paid to local workers at Hondaafushi Island Resort in service charge. They state that Shimhaz was terminated according to procedure, however, they did not disclose the circumstances behind his termination.

Additionally, they claim that Shimhaz was sacked while on probation and reiterate that his termination was completely legal.

While stating that false information about the resort is being spread with the intention to defame them, the resort appealed for the public to refrain from spreading false allegations and fake news stories.

Moreover, they emphasize that the allegations accusing the resort of paying only USD11 as service charge to local resort workers that have gone viral on social media are false. As such, they state that employees were given USD36 as service charge in the month of November, explaining that the occupancy rate at the resort in that month was 16%.
