Discussions on cooperation in infrastructural development have been held with the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC).
This was done during a meeting held at the President’s Office on Sunday.
During the meeting, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with officials from CMEC and Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Zhang Lizhong.
While discussions mainly revolved around potential areas of cooperation, infrastructural development cooperation was also highlighted.
CMEC officials shared proposed conceptual designs of the Olympic-standard stadium to be developed in capital city Malé’s suburbs, Hulhumalé, revolving around the country’s natural environment and resources.
The new stadium will be constructed in preparation to host the 11th edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) scheduled to be held in Maldives during 2023.
Also at the meeting, the president noted that China has been a significant development partner for the Maldives, having shed light on the optimistic bilateral relations between both countries.
He went onto emphasize on China’s continuous role and assistance extended for the infrastructural development in Maldives.
The meeting was joined by Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.
