PGO seeks charges against group arrested in drug-bust
PGO also sought charges against six of the men at the Hulhumalé Magistrate Court for the use of cannabis
Additional charges to be raised against the woman for refusing to provide a urine sample during investigations
The case surfaced during November 2019

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has sought charges against a group arrested and investigated in connection to a drug-related case.

PGO revealed that charges have been sought against a total of eight individuals including one woman. They were caught consuming alcohol and using narcotics inside a guesthouse in capital city Malé’s suburbs Hulhumalé during November 2019.

An additional charge was raised against the woman for refusing to provide a urine sample to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) during investigation, under article 125 of the Drugs Act.

PGO also sought charges against six of the men at the Hulhumalé Magistrate Court under article 115 of the Drugs Act, for the use of cannabis.

The same charges have been sought at the Drug Court, against another man.

The case surfaced on 19 November, when 12 were arrested under accusations of consuming alcohol and drug usage inside a guesthouse in Hulhumalé.
