Secretary General of main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Anas Abdul Sattar has announced his decision to contest in the Malé City mayoral election of the MDP primaries.
Anas made the reveal via Twitter, where he revealed his decision to contest for Malé City Mayor.

Anas also contested for the central-Maafannu constituency during the MDP primaries for the parliamentary elections held last year.
A few individuals have expressed interest in the post of capital city’s Mayor thus far including current Mayor Shifa Mohamed who is vying for re-election after having complete two consecutive years, current Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef as well as Councilor Ahmed Niyaz. Further, while MDP’s Deputy Secretary General Afshan Latheef also expressed interest in the position, she later withdrew her candidacy following a sudden and urgent family responsibility
Shifa has recently been facing publish backlash over the delay in resolving several issues facing the city due to underdevelopment. As such, the Mayor and the City Council has been under fire in recent days for several promises left neglected or long-drawn out.
The Local Council Elections have been slated for April 2020.
