The second edition of the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO)’s Conference has begun on Monday evening.
An initiation of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment and the Laamu Atoll Council, the conference kicked off in Fonadhoo island of Laamu atoll.
The conference is joined by 17 participants from 11 NGOs in the region and seminars will be conducted on capacity building for NGOs, as they play a significant role in the society, said Minister Ahmed Mahloof.
Mainly focusing on community empowerment, the first edition of the NGOs Conference was held in Villingili island of Gaaf Alif atoll with 28 participants from 15 NGOs.
The ministry is observed to be undertaking a lot of efforts to empower local NGOs and carry out activities with their joint efforts. It plans to launch several such conferences across the outlying atolls in the future.
