The government of Japan and the government of Maldives has exchanged the list of equipment for counter-terrorism measures at a special ceremony on Thursday.

The equipment is to be provided under the Exchange of Notes signed between the two governments during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's official visit to Japan in October 2019.

The list was exchanged between Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Keiko Yanai and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid.

The Exchange of Notes also includes a grant of five hundred million Japanese Yen(¥ 500,000,000) from the Japanese government for further promotion of economic and social development in the Maldives.

The donation will be used for counter-terrorism measures and the provision of necessary equipment for the Aviation Security Command.

Japan has been a consistent and one of the most reliable development partners of the Maldives, helping the country progress in infrastructural development and virtually all socio-economic spheres: from health to education, to climate-resilience and environmental conservation.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the officials of the Embassy of Japan to the Maldives were also in attendance at the ceremony.
