The Maldives' government has issued a plot of land from the diplomatic enclave in Phase 2 of Hulhumale' to establish the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates.
According to a press statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the objective of a diplomatic enclave is to easily guarantee the safety and security of foreign missions and consulates by limiting their location to one area, as per international standards.
While highlighting the congestion issue of Male' city, the ministry stated that phase 2 of Hulhumale' was selected for the diplomatic enclave as space constraints within the capital will not allow for future additions of embassies to the enclave.
The ministry also added that the enclave will ease difficulties in allocating parking spaces for embassy vehicles and that the land leases will be issued on the basis of reciprocity.
As such, plots of land in the enclave have already been allocated for the embassies of India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
