Male' City Mayor, Shifa Mohammed has revealed that the council is working to open the garden park being constructed in the place of Lonuziyaaraiy Kolhu, an empty lot near Sinamale' bridge, within January.
The mayor said that the council attempted to open the garden park to the public by November 11, but that it was postponed due to other unrelated issues at the council.
Highlighting the preparations for the park's opening, the mayor revealed that the council is currently planting new trees in the space which estimated to be completed within two months.
We have made efforts to speed up the work after receiving the letter from the President's Office with the request. We have sped up the work as much as possible as per the laws allow. We have contracted out work for 20 days via the bid committee. We cannot assign work to separate people without involving the bid committee.Mayor Shifa
In response to the allegations regarding the park, the mayor stated that the council has not made any expenditures that violate any laws or regulations with the funds provided by Parliament Public Accounts Committee.
Shifa stated that the details of expenses are routinely reported to the Ministry of Finance.
