As part of this year’s fishermen’s day celebrations, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated the Fisheries Expo 2019 on Friday.

The expo was initiated by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture in commemoration of the day, celebrated annually in the Maldives on 10 December.

During his visit on Friday, the president toured the several stalls opened at the expo, inquiring about the services and products offered which feature the fisheries sector.

The official ceremony for the day is set to be held on Tuesday night, followed up by a fishermen’s forum on Sunday and Monday as well as a fish-cutting competition on the latter day.

Items showcased under one roof feature modern technology, tools and resources in the industry including fishing tools and equipment as well as fish products by local companies.

The expo provides a platform for producers of fish commodities to market their products and for stakeholders to learn about the several products and tools featuring the industry.

While this is the third edition of the expo, it is being held form 6 – 8 December, at Huravee School in capital city Malé’s suburban extension Hulhumalé.
