Inquiry commission concludes investigations in Dr. Afrasheem, Raudha's cases

The Presidential Commission on Deaths and Enforced Disappearances has forwarded its reports on Dr. Afrasheem Ali's murder and Raudha Athif's death, to the President's Office after concluding investigations.
The commission announced that the final report in both cases was forwarded to the President's Office on Thursday.
Ungoofaaru constituency MP, Dr. Afrasheem was stabbed to death in the stairwell of his house in the capital city, in October 2012.
Two were charged over his murder, and Hussain Humaam was convicted and sentenced to death after a dubious trial.
The Commission of Murders and Enforced Disappearances was formed on incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s first day in office, last November.
In addition to Dr. Afrasheem’s case, the commission is investigating 24 other murders and disappearances including the murders of journalist Ahmed Rilwan and human rights' activist Yameen Rasheed.
The inquiry commission is also investigating the death of Raudha Athif, who was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her dorm room in the women’s hostel of the Islami Bank Medical College, Bangladesh, on March 29.
While the initial autopsy report ruled the death a suicide, Raudha’s family disputed the report saying she was murdered, and sought the assistance of Maldivian authorities in uncovering the cause of her death.
The commission began the investigation on Raudha's death following an appeal by her father.
Prior to her sudden death, Raudha, 21, had been getting international recognition as a fashion model, and was featured on the cover of Vogue Magazine India in October 2016.
