Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to probe a disciplinary issue against High Court Judges Shujau Usman and Hussain Shaheed.
The commission placed a total of 19 cases on the agenda for its meeting on Thursday and out of them include disciplinary complaints against both judges, as well as Hulhudhuffaaru Court’s Chief Magistrate Ali Musthafa.
JSC did not reveal further details regarding the disciplinary issues against the two judges.
Following the beginning of the 19th parliament and the appointment of new members to the commission, JSC been investigating a number of judges in line with the government’s pledge to reform the country’s judiciary.
One of the cases include former Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi who has since been removed from his post. He was found guilty of accepting money from those involved in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement scandal, using his position to gain undue influence, using his influence to secure a government job for his spouse, accepting bribes, violating judicial disciplinary regulation among many others.
Judge Shujau is a close accomplice of the former justice and is also alleged to have been involved in former President Abdulla Yameen’s campaign activities.
