Discussions have been held on investment avenues in the fisheries sector between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the President of Yamaki Company Limited, Yoshihiro Kido.

While the meeting took place on the sidelines of Solih’s ongoing visit to Japan to attend the Enthronement of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan, Solih and officials of Yamaki discussed ways through which the company’s investment may be expanded in the Maldives, further.

A subsidiary of Yamaki, Yours Maldivian Addu Katsuobushi Pvt Ltd (YMAK) is stationed in Hithadhoo of southernmost Addu City currently.

The factory produces ‘Katsuobushi’ which has a worth of over USD 200 million in revenue and adds value to the fisheries sector while contributing to the employment sector as well. 200 tons of skip jack tuna is used for the production of the Japanese product.

Yamaki is deemed an important investment partner in Maldives and is presently Japan’s most significant foreign-direct investment in the country.

During the meeting, Solih extended gratitude to Yoshihiro for the company’s “long-term commitment” in producing ‘Katsuobushi’ from skipjack tuna from Maldives waters.

Yoshihiro was accompanied by Director and Senior Executive Corporate Officer Katsuro Kido during the meeting.

Yamaki manufactures and sells seasonings, dry seafood, as well as processed seafood.
