As part of the celebrations held to mark the International Day for Older Persons, a family evening has been held for senior citizens on Saturday, which was attended by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The evening was held at Kudakudhinge Bageechaa on Saturday and was an initiative of the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services.
Several government institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations working for the rights of the elderly, joined hands to feature a total of 17 stalls.
During his visit, Solih toured the stalls set up in the park and observed arrangements made to accommodate senior citizens.
The stalls included interactive family entertainment such as games that the elderly may take part in. It also featured health check-ups and information curated for their needs.
United Nations General Assembly voted to establish 1 October as the International Day of Older Persons in December 1990, and it has since been celebrated across the globe.
