Councilors from Dhigurah island in Alif Dhaal atoll have briefed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on the requirements and concerns raised by the island community.
At a meeting held at the President’s Office on Monday, Solih was briefed on the constituency’s urgent priorities and the development visions the council has for its constituents.
Shedding light on the most pertinent issues, councilors stressed that their constituents are in need of new housing plots following lack of shelter.
Further, the island’s harbor requires an upgrade, water and sanitization services also need to be established and soil erosion as well as waste management in the island need to be resolved soon.
They went on to highlight the need to develop the island’s education and health sectors as well as the youth community’s requirement of sports and recreational facilities on the island.
Having listened to their concerns, Solih updated the council on a timeline of projects marked for the island within the scope of the government budget.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to take the required action after discussions are held with relevant ministries in order to tackle the issues at hand.
The government has assured the people that no island will be left behind on its development agenda, having tasked companies with several development projects so far this year.
